If that trajectory continues, NFL games on Christmas could be an annual tradition moving forward, and the move could have a huge impact on how millions of Americans spend the holiday. Previously, the NFL only played on Christmas when it fell on one of the traditional days for NFL games — Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. The 2023 Christmas games were three of the 19 most-watched programs on TV last year, according to Nielsen. In March 2023, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told the media that short-week games do not lead to more injuries. On the other hand, CBS aired 107 games in 2023, but only six were national TV games.

Chains owned by publicly traded restaurant companies accounted for half of the top 10 fastest-growing retail brands in the U.S. last year, according to a new Yelp report. Of the 50 fastest-growing chains in Yelp's report, 35 were restaurant brands. Jack in the Box, First Watch and Dutch Bros were among the public restaurant chains included in the report, but they didn't crack the top 10. Popeyes' higher sales have encouraged franchisees to open more locations and led new operators to join the brand, Restaurant Brands executives have previously said. In 2023, Popeyes surpassed KFC as the second-most popular chicken chain in the U.S. by sales, trailing only Chick-fil-A.

CNN has reached out to the Chiefs, Rees-Zammit’s agent and the NFL for comment. The 23-year-old winger is a star for Wales and his former club Gloucester but elected to leave the security of rugby for the NFL International Player Pathway (IPP) program and eventually an NFL roster. “I fancy a new challenge and what a better challenge than to be in the NFL,” Rees-Zammit told CNN’s Coy Wire earlier this month. A Kansas man is suing Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., over social media posts that falsely identified him as an undocumented immigrant and one of the shooters in the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade that turned deadly last month. "At no time was Plaintiff an 'alien,' an 'illegal alien,' nor a 'shooter' and the assertions to the contrary were false and were circulated widely among Defendant's followers," the lawsuit states. Burchett in February posted an image of Loudermill on X, identifying him as "one of the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade shooters" and "an illegal Alien." Federal courts require cases seeking damages between people in different states, such as this one, to exceed $75,000. Although he was released and not cited or charged with a crime, the lawsuit states, his image began circulating on social media, eventually landing on Burchett's page.

The Tennessee Titans are finalizing a deal to acquire cornerback L'Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs for a pair of draft picks, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday night. Kansas City was unable to come to terms on a long-term deal, leading to this trade. Under terms of the deal, Tennessee would send its third-round pick in the 2025 draft and also flip seventh-round selections with the Chiefs in the draft next month. The 27-year-old Sneed has developed into one of the top cornerbacks in the league since being drafted in the fourth round in 2020. The Titans signed Cincinnati cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to a three-year deal for $36 million with $23 million guaranteed to help kick off free agency.

Several fans of the Kansas City Chiefs who attended a playoff game on a bitterly cold January day in Missouri suffered frostbite that required amputations, according to the hospital that treated them. Not all of the patients who had amputations attended the Chiefs game. Some were people who worked outdoors in the extreme cold, the hospital said. The exact number of fans who attended the game who had amputations was unclear. The hospital said there was some overlap among the fans and those who had also worked outdoors.

How a father can affect a sonSo many people now know that Jason Kelce is an all-pro center who had an illustrious 13-year career. Team owners will meet at the annual league meeting in March to discuss private equity. The investment ownership model is favored in the NBA, MLB and NHL— but not in the NFL. So, what will a rule change mean for institutional investors and their Wall Street brokers, as well as owners and sports fans? Experts also think NFL team owners' "wealth would increase drastically," said Rotthoff— due to the considerable profits they've already made from team valuations in the past decade. Wall Street investment banks could also benefit in their role as advisors to wealthy investors and sports teams, including helping to connect buyers with sellers.

I may have muttered the phrase “I hate sports” several times over the next few days. As a sentient being who happens to be a passionate sports fan, I have had ample opportunity to grapple with this question. Yet our emotional well-being rises and falls with their success on the field, on the court and on the baseball diamond. I believe it’s because, in a world in which tribalism is pulling us apart, the completely imaginary tribalism of the sports fan is a necessary balm. And this simulated losing helps prepare us for the worst that life can dish out.

Read previewMany professional athletes get paid a lot of money to play their sports, but for some, their endorsement deals are more lucrative than their salaries. Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James is the professional athlete who earned the most from endorsements and sponsorship deals last year, per Sportico. Athletes tend to retire younger than the average worker, so endorsement deals help them maximize their earnings while they're still in the spotlight. But without these restrictions, star athletes like James would likely earn much more over the course of their careers. AdvertisementThe athletes with the lowest endorsement earnings are listed first.

CNN —Two men were charged with murder and other felony charges for their roles in the mass shooting after a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally last week, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Tuesday. Lyndell Mays, of Raytown, and Dominic M. Miller, of Kansas City, were both charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action, the prosecutor’s office said. Though they were both charged with murder, Miller’s firearm was the one that fatally wounded Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and local DJ and radio host. The incident was at least the 48th mass shooting in the United States in 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which like CNN counts those in which four or more are shot, not including a perpetrator. Police initially said Wednesday they detained three people after the shooting, but one was later “determined to not be involved.”
